Town of Delhi Implements Community Notification System

Delhi Residents Can Now Receive Real-Time Public Safety Messages Through Nixle

The Town of Delhi has partnered with Nixle to implement a notification system that communicates with residents in real-time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories and messages. Nixle will help improve how the Town of Delhi can communicate with residents through a system that coordinates phone calls, texts, emails, and more.

As a resident, there are several ways to register to receive the town’s communications:
1.    Go to townofdelhiny.org
2.    Search 13753 in the Everbridge app from your mobile phone
3.     Text 13753 to 888777 from your mobile phone
4.     Call 746-TOWN to sign up

“The Town wanted to bring this service to the residents of Delhi to keep them informed of important happenings,” says Town Councilmember, Christina Viafore. “We especially want those that only have landline phones to sign up to make certain they get the messages that are important to them.”

Ms. Viafore will be at the Town Hall at 5 Elm Street on Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in April to assist residents in signing up. There are three categories of messages that will be sent to residents.

Alert messages are critically important information where the loss of life and/or property is potentially imminent. Messages could include severe weather warnings, dangerous situations, and health alerts. Alert messages will be sent by voicecall to your home phone number, text message to your mobile number, and by email.

Advisory messages are intended to communicate important, need-to-know information. Messages could include road alerts, or local giveaways. Advisory messages will be sent by text and email unless you have only provided your home phone.

Community messages will be used to convey town meetings, everyday local happenings, and developments. Community messages will be sent to email only. If residents with landline phones want to receive advisory and community messages over the phone, they will need to sign up by calling (607) 746-TOWN.

Nixle’s privacy policies do not allow the Town to know who has signed up. To ensure residents are on the list, registration is advised. All messages will be targeted geographically, allowing residents to receive relevant information from the Town of Delhi. All messages will be posted on the web, and the Everbridge mobile app. Landlines phone numbers from the white and yellow page data have been purchased and uploaded to the notification system. In the event of an emergency situation in which an alert message is needed, a voice call can be sent to these Delhi residents without signing up.
