Road Work Alert

Posted:

Please be advised that on Thursday, September 10 and Friday, September 11, weather permitting, the Town of Delhi Highway Department will oil and stone the following locations:

  • West Platner Brook
  • Peakes Brook

Please expect delays and use extra caution when traveling on these roads.

This process covers an existing road with a layer of oil and stone that helps seal damage to a roadway and extends the life of the surface at a fraction of the cost of resurfacing. This option is an effective way to seal cracks and prevent new ones.

Please call Daren Evans, Town of Delhi Highway Superintendent at 607-746-2237 if you have any questions and keep an eye out for other news updates at townofdelhiny.com/department/highway-department.

Delhi Playground is Reopening

Posted:

The Delhi Playground located next to the pool is partially open from daylight to dusk.

Playground Rules:

  • Follow social distancing recommendations of 12 feet and wear a mask
  • Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult
  • Playground equipment is designed for children ages 2-12 years old
  • The use of the playground is at your own risk.

The swings, yellow sphere, and the two large play structures are open for play.  Countless hours have been spent weeding and preparing the mulch to prepare the grounds to pass insurance inspection.  Thanks to employees in the Summer Youth Employment Program, Kaylee Lewis and Stephanie Gatos, volunteers Hope Knapp, Anna Krusinski, and Sarah Poole, Pool Advisory Committee member Will Outsen, Highway Superintendent Daren Evans, and Councilmembers Janet Tweed and Christina Viafore for all their hard work to prepare the playground.

For public safety, please wear a face covering and maintain social distance between each child not in the same household. Play equipment is not sanitized. Please remain home if you or your child feels sick, and wash your hands frequently, including before and after using play equipment.  Click here for additional guidance from the CDC regarding visiting parks and recreational facilities.

The playground has been well-loved and well-used over the past decades but is showing all that use.  A group consisting of local parents, members of the Pool Advisory Committee, and Town Council, has begun the process to develop and implement plans for a new playground.  Further updates to come!

Those uncomfortable coming to a workday can contact Janet Tweed at councilmember4@townofdelhi.org to select a task to help the playground.

The State phased reopening for our region is happening!

The Delhi Pool and Playground must remain closed for now. Before it can open, the Southern Tier region in which Delhi is located has to make it to Phase 4 of reopening. An annual risk assessment for the playground that will address any safety concerns needs to be completed as well.

Recreation is an important part of life. The Town of Delhi understands this and is working to facilitate options for our citizens. Currently, hiking trails are open and welcoming. Continue to practice social distancing and mask-wearing.

  • Bramley Mountain Trail access is located on Glen Burnie Rd
  • Mount Crawford Trails behind Delaware Academy can be accessed by Sheldon Park or the Lutheran Church on Rt. 28
  • O’Connor Fitness trail access is located at the far end of parking lot

  • SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center is located off Rt 28 going toward Bovina and Andes.

Thank you for your patience as we work together.

As a glimpse of the future for the playground, here are some SUNY Delhi student drawings of what the playground might become.
