According to Delaware County Public Health, vaccination is underway for priority population groups. It will take about 14 weeks to vaccinate the population eligible in phases 1a and 1b.

For an updated list of who is eligible to receive the COVID vaccine please go to www.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov. From this site check your eligibility, find vaccination locations near you, and schedule an appointment. Or call the New York State COVID-19 vaccination hotline at 1-833-697-4829.

For individuals 65 and older, local assistance with scheduling can be obtained by calling Delaware County Office for the Aging at 607-832-5750.

Please note that due to the federal government supply distribution process it may take 12 or more weeks before an appointment is available to you.  Please remember the people and facilities providing vaccinations are the same people that have been working throughout this entire pandemic. They are being tasked with additional jobs and maintaining the responsibility of operations. Please be patient, you will be vaccinated.

Here's what you need to do if you want to be vaccinated:

Step 1: Determine eligibility and schedule an appointment. First, you should complete the Am I Eligible? App to check their eligibility and find vaccination locations near you where you can schedule an appointment, or call the New York State COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline. The COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline is open 7 AM - 10 PM, 7 days a week, for scheduling vaccination appointments for eligible New Yorkers: 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829). Note that due to limited supply from the federal government, it may be 12 or more weeks before an appointment is available to you.  

Step 2: Complete the Vaccine Form. Once and only once you have a confirmed appointment, you must complete the New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Form. This form can be completed online and you will receive a submission ID, or can be completed at your vaccination site. (We encourage New Yorkers to complete the form ahead of time.)

Step 3: Bring proof of eligibility to your appointment. When you go to your vaccination site for your appointment, you must bring proof of eligibility. This may include an employee ID card, a letter from an employer or affiliated organization, or a pay stub, depending on the specific priority status. If you are eligible due to age, you should bring a form of ID (like a Driver's License or passport) that includes your date of birth.

Step 4: Schedule your second appointment in-person at your vaccination site. You will be able to schedule an appointment to get your second shot at your vaccination site, in-person, right after getting your first shot. Remember: Both vaccines require two doses for effectiveness.

Delhi is expected to get 2 to 5 inches of snow this evening, Sunday, January 3, 2021.  Plan on slippery road conditions and reduced visibility where higher snowfall rates can occur.  The Town of Delhi Highway Department staff is doing their best to take care of our town but needs all of us to take our time on the roads and use our common sense when traveling in inclement weather.

The Village of Delhi will ring in its Bicentennial year, on Saturday, January 2, on the Courthouse Square at 2 p.m. with a bell ringing ceremony. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served by Cross Roads Café with complementary Bicentennial mugs with the new logo will be given to adults while supplies last.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bells in order to participate, but some bells will be provided.  Masks are required for this socially distanced event.  

The afternoon will conclude with a history-themed scavenger hunt with candy treat bags for all those who finish the activity. The day’s festivities will wrap up with fireworks set off from the SUNY Delhi campus at 5:30 p.m. The blizzard/rain date will be Saturday, Jan. 9.

Activities are being planned for throughout the 2021 year. Given the pandemic, the plans are tentative but include summer and fall birthday celebrations, a cemetery tour, a Village walking tour and a Delhi Dreaming community workshop near the end of the year.

The Town Clerk's office will be closed Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th for Christmas.  We would like to wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season.  Please note will  also be closed on Friday, January 1st for New Years.  

Delhi is home to two hiking trails created by the Catskill Mountain Club (CMC).  The Bramley Mountain Trail accessed on Glen Burnie Road, and the Delhi Trails accessed from the parking lot at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on State Route 28.  The club has a new free patch for anyone that hikes all six trails built by the club.  These trails include Andes Rail Trail and Bullet Hole Spur, Ashokan Quarry Trail, Palmer Hill Trail, and the Shavertown Trail in addition to the two trails in Delhi.  The seventh trail in Arkville is in development and should open in 2021.  

This new patch is designed to celebrate the trails that have been built by the CMC.  They will be awarded only to those individuals who hike all of the CMC trails and submit an application showing the dates of each hike.  Download the log and application from the CMC website, catskillmountainclub.org.  Once complete, email the application to info@catskillmountainclub.org or mail it to Catskill Mountain Club, PO Box 404, Margaretville, NY 12455.

According to catskillmountainclub.org, in 2012, the CMC decided to build hiking trails with the purpose of creating trails of easy to moderate difficulty for hikers of many abilities, conveniently located near local villages.  In cooperation with partners like the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, local governments, other public entities and private landowners, they have been able to develop the trails on lands that have many beautiful and historically significant features.  

Detailed descriptions and maps of each trail can be downloaded from their website.  The maps are also available for download for smartphones using the Avenza Maps application. There is no charge for the Avenza app or the CMC trail maps, which are available individually or as a bundle.

On Thursday, December 17, Senator Jen Metzger is partnering with the Cancer Services Program of the Central Region to make free cancer screenings available to Delhi residents via a mobile screening unit parked at Price Chopper supermarket.

Health professionals will be available on-board the mobile screening unit to provide mammograms, pap tests, and more for uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers, 40 and older. Free colon cancer screening kits will be available for uninsured and underinsured New Yorkers, 50 and older. Insurance will be billed for those with insurance.

A representative from Senator Metzger's office will also be available at the event to provide constituent services.

Please be advised that on Thursday, September 10 and Friday, September 11, weather permitting, the Town of Delhi Highway Department will oil and stone the following locations:

• West Platner Brook
• Peakes Brook

Please expect delays and use extra caution when traveling on these roads.  

This process covers an existing road with a layer of oil and stone that helps seal damage to a roadway and extends the life of the surface at a fraction of the cost of resurfacing. This option is an effective way to seal cracks and prevent new ones.

The Delhi Playground located next to the pool is partially open from daylight to dusk. 

Playground Rules:

• Follow social distancing recommendations of 12 feet and wear a mask
• Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult
• Playground equipment is designed for children ages 2-12 years old
• The use of the playground is at your own risk.

The swings, yellow sphere, and the two large play structures are open for play.  Countless hours have been spent weeding and preparing the mulch to prepare the grounds to pass insurance inspection.  Thanks to employees in the Summer Youth Employment Program, Kaylee Lewis and Stephanie Gatos, volunteers Hope Knapp, Anna Krusinski, and Sarah Poole, Pool Advisory Committee member Will Outsen, Highway Superintendent Daren Evans, and Councilmembers Janet Tweed and Christina Viafore for all their hard work to prepare the playground.

For public safety, please wear a face covering and maintain social distance between each child not in the same household. Play equipment is not sanitized. The playground has been well-loved and well-used over the past decades but is showing all that use.  A group consisting of local parents, members of the Pool Advisory Committee, and Town Council, has begun the process to develop and implement plans for a new playground.  Further updates to come!

Hunters in New York can now earn their bowhunter education certificate online.  A bowhunter education certificate is required for hunters who use a bow and arrow to hunt deer or bear. All hunters must also complete a mandatory hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license.  
All in-person bowhunter education courses have been canceled since March due to COVID-19. The online course provides an opportunity for new archery hunters to get their required bowhunter education certificates before the fall hunting seasons begin.  
The online course takes about six hours to complete and is open to New York State residents age 11 and older, but only those 12 or older may purchase a hunting license.   
Students who successfully complete the online bowhunter education course and pass the final exam will receive their bowhunter education certificate. The cost of the course is $30. The online course will be available through August 31, 2020.              https://www.bowhunter-ed.com/newyork/

The Delhi Pool will be opening on Tuesday, July 14 at noon. The schedule for this week is as follows and is subject to change.

Tuesday-Friday: 12:00pm - 6:00 pm
Saturday: 12:00pm - 8:00pm
Sunday: 12:00pm - 4:00pm

We will be closed on Mondays.

Some important information:

• As of right now, the kiddie pool will remain closed.
• Please wear your mask when you enter the facility.
• There will be a sign-in sheet upon entry to the pool for COVID purposes. Your name and phone number are required.
• We are allowing a maximum of 40 people into the facility to ensure proper social distancing.
• If you are not swimming, we are asking you stay outside the facility.
• If you exhibit COVID symptoms, have been in contact with a confirmed COVID case, or have traveled to a COVID hot spot, please stay home.
• Swim times will take place every hour on the hour for 45 minutes. The last 15 minutes of the hour, we ask everyone leave the facility in order for us to disinfect.

Online Hunter Education Available through August 31, 2020

The online hunter education course that was first available in April when all in-person hunter education courses had to be canceled due to COVID -19, will now be available through August 31, 2020. The online course is offered by Kalkomey Enterprises, a company that specializes in hunter education. The online course is available to anyone ages 11 and older and can be completed from a computer, tablet, or smart phone at any time. Students who complete the online course and virtual field day, and pass the final exam, will receive their hunter education certificate and can purchase a hunting license. Only those hunters ages 12 or older may purchase a license and hunt in NY. The cost of the course is $19.95. You can find the online course on Kalkomey's website. 

Who says there's nothing to do in Delhi?  Even during a pandemic, when most organized recreation activities have been canceled, there are still many ways to keep yourself busy in Delhi while maintaining social distancing.

The Town has created a bingo like game for people to share what they are doing this summer to have fun.
