Delaware County Burn Ban in Effect

Posted:

Facing abnormally dry conditions and a heightened risk of wildfires, Delaware County issued a State of Emergency and a county-wide burn ban on Oct. 25. The ban, which took effect at noon, will remain in place until further notice.

The decision comes as a prolonged lack of rainfall has left ground cover exceptionally dry, with forecasts indicating little to no relief in the coming days. The dry environment, coupled with seasonal conditions, has significantly increased the potential for wildfires, prompting officials to prioritize public safety.

The burn ban prohibits all open burning, including campfires, brush piles, woodstove ash dumping, leaf and yard debris, and any devices with open flames such as torches.

Violating the burn ban is considered a criminal offense carrying penalties as a class B misdemeanor.

The burn ban will remain in effect until lifted, with updates contingent on weather conditions and rainfall.
