Playground Maintenance

Posted:

Members of the Catskill Ladies Association to Support and Inspire volunteered to weed and redistribute mulch in the Playground located down by the Delhi Pool.  This work was greatly appreciated and crucial to making a safe playground environment.

Weather permitting, additional workdays will be held on Friday, July 3, and Sunday, July 5 at 10 a.m. to weed and rake the mulch around the big play structures, the swings, and the space pod. Tools are provided.  Socially distancing will be practiced.

Those uncomfortable coming to a workday can contact Janet Tweed at councilmember4@townofdelhi.org to select a task to help the playground.

Road Work Alert

Posted:

Please be advised that on Wednesday, June 17, weather permitting, the Town of Delhi Highway Department will oil and stone the following locations:

  • Scotch Mountain Road
  • Bell Hill Road
  • Sutherland Road
  • The intersection of Fleming Road

Please expect delays and use extra caution when traveling on these roads.

This process covers an existing road with a layer of oil and stone that helps seal damage to a roadway and extends the life of the surface at a fraction of the cost of resurfacing. This option is an effective way to seal cracks and prevent new ones.

Please call Daren Evans, Town of Delhi Highway Superintendent at 607-746-2237 if you have any questions and keep an eye out for other news updates at townofdelhiny.com/department/highway-department.

The State phased reopening for our region is happening!

The Delhi Pool and Playground must remain closed for now. Before it can open, the Southern Tier region in which Delhi is located has to make it to Phase 4 of reopening. An annual risk assessment for the playground that will address any safety concerns needs to be completed as well.

Recreation is an important part of life. The Town of Delhi understands this and is working to facilitate options for our citizens. Currently, hiking trails are open and welcoming. Continue to practice social distancing and mask-wearing.

  • Bramley Mountain Trail access is located on Glen Burnie Rd
  • Mount Crawford Trails behind Delaware Academy can be accessed by Sheldon Park or the Lutheran Church on Rt. 28
  • O’Connor Fitness trail access is located at the far end of parking lot

  • SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center is located off Rt 28 going toward Bovina and Andes.

Thank you for your patience as we work together.

As a glimpse of the future for the playground, here are some SUNY Delhi student drawings of what the playground might become.

We are in unprecedented times as we face the challenge of the coronavirus. We can get through this together by following the guidance given by the CDC and the state and county health departments.

The coronavirus is spread by human interaction, so there is a lot that you can do to help minimize the spread.  You’ve probably heard it a million times, but keeping your hands clean is crucial. Be mindful of what you are touching and don't touch your face with unwashed hands.  Practice social distancing, and limit your interaction with others. It is critical that people keep a six-foot distance between each other.  Remember, that one can be a carrier of the virus even if they don’t display symptoms.  You must also stay home when feeling sick.

The Greater Delhi Area Chamber of Commerce has a new website, www.supportdelhi.com, that will be available soon.  They will be offering suggestions to remind us how Delhi is still a great place to live, work and play while practicing social distancing. They will be providing resources for keeping you and your family happy, healthy and entertained!

If you are feeling lonely, please try one of the many apps that can help you stay connected with family and friends.  Facebook, Zoom, and Facetime are a few of the ways to stay in contact with your loved ones without being near them and potentially putting them and yourself at risk.

We WILL get through this together!

Delaware County Public Health Services currently has a confirmed positive case of COVID-19. The State of Emergency declaration will help Public Health reduce the spread.

The 2019 Novel (New) Coronavirus is spread person to person by droplets when coughing. It can cause an illness ranging from mild to severe. This virus causes a disease called COVID-19 and can lead to fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

Older adults and persons who have severe underlying chronic medical conditions like heart, lung disease or diabetes seem to be at a higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19. People who are at higher risk are encouraged to avoid crowds as much as possible.

You can take the following everyday preventive actions to stay healthy:
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

If you have any of the COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, trouble breathing or pneumonia) talk to your primary care provider. Do not come to the emergency room unless there is a pressing emergency.

For general information about COVID-19 please call the New York State Department of Health 24/7 hotline at 1-888-364-3065. For more information about COVID-19 you can visit www.delawarecountypublichealth.com,https://www.health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/coronavirus/ and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html

Coronavirus Update

Posted:

According to delawarecountypublichealth.com, Delaware County currently has one confirmed, positive case of COVID-19. Delaware County Public Health is working to reduce the spread. Individuals that came in contact with the person, will be contacted as this is standard protocol for the Public Health department with any communicable disease.  They recommend if anyone has a fever, with cough or experiencing shortness of breath they should contact their health care provider to find out if they meet current criteria for testing.

While there is currently no vaccine to prevent this virus, these simple steps can help stop the spread of this and other respiratory viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Early information shows that some people are at higher risk of getting very sick from this illness. This includes:

  • Older adults
  • People who have serious chronic medical conditions like:
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Lung disease

If you are at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19 because of your age or because you have a serious long-term health problem, it is extra important for you to take actions to reduce your risk of getting sick with the disease. To reduce people’s risk of being exposed to COVID-19 these actions can slow the spread and reduce the impact of disease:

  • Take everyday precautions
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
    • Clean your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, or having been in a public place. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
    • To the extent possible, avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places – elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc. Use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand or finger if you must touch something.
    • Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places.
    • Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes, etc.
    • Clean and disinfect your home to remove germs: practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks & cell phones)
    • Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. Your risk of exposure to respiratory viruses like COVID-19 may increase in crowded, closed-in settings with little air circulation if there are people in the crowd who are sick.
    • Avoid all non-essential travel including plane trips, and especially avoid embarking on cruise ships.
  • During a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed.  An outbreak is when a large number of people suddenly get sick.

For general questions about COVID-19, please call the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) 24/7 Hotline at 1-888-364-3065.
